Bio:

I am Artie.

I was born around 21 years ago in Vault 122. My Father was a white collar worker and my mother helped the doctor. I was born prematurely and suffered from various ailments associated with my birth. I was the runt, so to speak. I was the easiest one for the dilettantes’ snot-nosed brats and bullies to single out and ridicule.

I learned how to be fast to avoid the bullies and have my own little adventures in the tunnels of the vault’s farms. However, during this rough time I did have one true friend, Betty Loggins. She was a loving and caring person. She had my back and we had a great childhood together. As the years past, I grew taller, but had a more slender frame. It gave me an advantage with speed and an ability to hideout almost anywhere.

The worst day of my life was 4 years ago. I was going to school and heard that Betty had gone missing and she wasn’t responding to her pip. I dropped everything and used every resource I had to try and find her. Until this time I really did not know any of Vault Security. The situation led me to meet Detective Gary Jules. Detective Jules saw something in me that no one else did. He told me I had the potential to be a great gatherer of information. I did not really understand at the time, all I wanted to do was find Betty. I went to all our usual places and found nothing. Detective Jules and I teamed up and we went out to find her. Learning from Detective Jules, I noticed things others missed. After two days we found Betty. She had been taken and kept as someone’s torture toy. She had been cut, beaten and molested. We got her to the Doctor and received a grim prognosis. However, Betty had pulled through. The damage to her body healed and left scars but the scars left to her psyche were still gushing without any sign of healing.

After the tragedy she endured, I stayed with Betty everyday. She was silent and spoke not a word to anyone. Two weeks passed and I could not help but ask Betty who hurt her. She broke into tears as she reached out for me. She whispered in my ear, “Josh. Josh Kingley.” I held her in an embrace and told her everything would be alright. I immediately rushed to find that no-good, scum of the vault dilettantes. I was enraged to the point of livid insanity. Fortunately, Detective Jules saw me on the rampage, and dragged me to his office. I told him everything and gave me the option of settling down in his office or a cell. I chose wisely and calmed down as best as possible. He explained to me that I couldn’t just go out, accuse someone, and execute judgment. That day, Detective Jules took me under his wing. We went out, interviewed others, gathered evidence to find the one who hurt Betty.

The evidence was irrefutable. All of it pointed to Josh Kingley and Ben Collins, his crony. They had ambushed and hurt Betty. We had them, but the Overseer stepped in and told us to back off the investigation. This time I did not lose my temper. I listened to Detective Jules explain how this action could encourage more and more attacks and how the Overseer’s position could be crippled. The Overseer seemed unmoved by the arguments, and assured us everything would be fine. The closest Betty ever got to justice was that the Overseer cracked down on people paying others to get out of work shifts, which lead to both Josh Kingley and Ben Collins dieing in a farming accident due to their never having actually used the machinery before, much less attending training.

Betty was relieved for the justice, but I wish they could have stood trial. Later, she began the slow process of healing her unseen scars. I was with her every step of the way. During this time I began studying under Detective Jules. He trained me in Law Enforcement and after work, helped me hone skills I did not even know I possessed. I have grown myself fast and agile. He has taught me tactics and other traits not usually taught to the other officers in the Vault. I am happy and I think soon I’ll ask Betty a very important question.

For now, I’ll finish up my rounds and get ready to complete the first rule of a good law enforcement officer, getting back home, alive.
